I love making decorations that catch your eye, make you smile, and give you something new to notice every time you look at them.
It Starts With One Detail
Sometimes an entire design starts with a ribbon.
Other times, it’s a character, a sign, or a color combination I can’t get out of my head.
Then comes the fun part: figuring out what to put around it.
I might pull several ribbons, move things around, try a bow, take something out, and decide it needs a completely different finishing touch. A piece can change quite a bit between the first idea and the finished design.
That’s one of my favorite parts of creating. I get to see where an idea takes me.
Yes, I Love a Big Bow 🎀
A bow can bring a whole piece together.
I love combining ribbon patterns and textures—something soft beside something glittery, a bold stripe beside a playful print, or a beautiful velvet ribbon that gives the design a richer feel.
And sometimes, yes, the bow gets big!
But I’m looking at more than its size. I’m thinking about how the loops frame the character, where the tails fall, and whether the colors bring the rest of the piece together.
When the bow finally looks right, everything around it starts to make sense.
The Details Are My Favorite Part
The main character or sign might be what catches your attention first, but the smaller details are what keep me interested while I’m working.
A little peppermint tucked into a Christmas design. An unexpected pair of eyes in a Halloween wreath. A tiny accent that repeats a color from the ribbon.
Those choices take time. I’ll move something a few inches, step back, and look again. Sometimes that small change makes all the difference.
I want you to enjoy the whole piece—and enjoy looking closer, too.
Your Wreath Can Have Its Own Personality
I don’t believe your wreath has to match everything around it.
If you fall in love with a pink Christmas design, you don’t need to redecorate your entire porch in pink. If a bold Halloween character makes you happy, it can have its moment right on your front door.
A wreath can be the piece you build your decorating around, or it can simply be something you love hanging up.
You get to decide.
There’s room for elegant decorations, playful decorations, spooky decorations, and a front door that makes people stop for a second look.
Extra Looks Different in Every Design
Sometimes “extra” means bright colors, oversized candy, and a character with plenty of personality.
Other times, it means layers of beautiful ribbon, soft florals, and a few carefully placed touches of shimmer.
I enjoy both.
An elegant piece gives me a different creative challenge than a whimsical one, but I still get excited about choosing the textures and finishing details.
And although I love adding things, I also spend time deciding when a piece is finished. Every detail needs a place where it works.
Sometimes the best finishing touch is moving something—or taking it out altogether!
Decorating Should Be Fun ❤️
One of the things I love most about seasonal decorating is that you get to try something different.
You can bring out a favorite piece year after year, change your colors, or fall in love with a theme you never expected to like.
Maybe this year you want something sweet and colorful. Maybe you want a little Halloween drama. Maybe you’ve found a Christmas character that reminds you of someone in your family.
Whatever draws you to a piece, I hope hanging it up becomes a moment you look forward to.
That’s the feeling I’m thinking about when I’m creating: someone opening their box, finding a spot for their new decoration, and smiling when they step back to look at it.
